FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
Is the colon hydrotherapy safe? Can my gut get perforated?
The colon hydrotherapy is a safe therapy when performed properly. It is important to pay attention to the contraindications. There is often speculation about the perceived dangers of a perforation. The colon hydrotherapy devices are medical devices. The pressure in the large intestine is constantly checked so that the pressure is significantly lower than the pressure that occurs when using the toilet (defecation).
What are the contraindications of colon hydrotherapy?
Pregnancy, after fresh operations of the gut (in this case you have to wait 6 months), in an acute episode of a chronic inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis, chronic disease), intestinal ulcers, painful passage of the stool (to be clarified by a proctologist), painful hemorrhoids, polyps that are palpable with the fingers, myocardial infarction, angina pectoris, heart failure, kidney failure, children under 12 years of age, acute diseases (even an acute cold).
Is the colon hydrotherapy painful?
The colon hydrotherapy is not painful. The insertion of the disposable speculum is hardly noticeable. The perceptions during therapy varies greatly from person to person. For some, therapy is stressful during treatment (comparable to exercise), but never painful. Others even find it pleasant because of the feeling of emptying the gut.
Is there a risk of contamination from the machine or system?
All materials that are in contact with the patient are disposable. In my practice I work according to the highest hygiene standards.
How many colon hydrotherapy sessions are advisable?
The number of sessions varies greatly from person to person. It depends on the following factors: Age, previous illnesses, goals (preventive or curative?). On average, I reccomend between 4 and 10 sessions.
How long does a session take?
The duration of the sessions always depends on the patient’s condition and can even vary depending on the physical condition on a specific day. A session usually lasts between 30 and 50 minutes.
Are my “good” gut bacteria “destroyed”?
No. There are several reasons for this: 1) We only flush the colon. The small intestine remains unaffected. 2) There are trillions of bacteria in our body. 3) The colon hydrotherapy is carried out with a very gentle pressure. 4) The treatment is always carried out in parallel with the oral intake of a probiotic, prebiotic and / or symbiotic.
Is my colon not capable of “freeing itself” from stool?
It depends on the person. Many factors play an important role in a healthy defecation: Age, state of health, nutrition, composition of the intestinal flora, etc. However, the main goal of the colon hydrotherapy is to stimulate the intestinal peristalsis (gut movements) and to positively influence the tone. The muscles, the nervous system, the blood circulation and the lymphatic system are stimulated positively. In addition, as a positive side effect, you will be emptying your colon and achieve a positive lightness in your gut.
Does the colon hydrotherapy help with constipation or diarrhea?
In my practice I have had very positive experiences with the colon hydrotherapy for both constipation and diarrhea. The reason is that the treatment is a regulatory therapy. The intestinal peristalsis is positively influenced and regulated. It is also important to treat when needed intestinal problems, including the determination and evaluation of useful laboratory parameters such as the composition of the gut flora, inflammation parameters, digestive residues, fungi, overgrowth syndrome, intolerances, underlying diseases, etc.
Is it possible to undergo a colon hydrotherapy while menstruating?
Yes, therapy is possible unless you have a very strong or painful period.
Do you only use water during therapy?
It depends on the therapeutic goals. I usually only use water, unless we have agreed to use other liquids. For some indications it makes sense to work with other additives such as coffee, bases, ozone, colloidal silver, probiotics.
Does a gut massage make sense?
The gut massage increases the effectiveness of the therapy, supports cleaning and helps to relax the colon.
Can I eat before therapy or do I have to fast? You do not need to be fasting or fast before therapy. A few days before, it is advisable to follow a light high-fiber diet, as well as to drink plenty of water or herbal teas, which stimulate digestion. Alcohol, smoking or junk food should be avoided for better results.
Can I continue my regular working day after therapy or should I rest?
After therapy, you can do everything you had planned (work, sports, etc.).
Who carries out the therapy?
I personally conduct the therapy in my practice. I am an alternative practitioner registered in Germany (Ministry of Health of Karlsruhe) with additional training and experience in the field of colon irrigation and gut health.
Why is the Colon hydrotherapy better than an enema?
The colon hydrotherapy is much more effective than enema because of its scope. We can flush the entire colon and in this way stimulate the gut peristalsis more effectively.
Do I have to take all of my clothes for therapy?
No. Your privacy is always respected. You can keep the upper body clothing completely and prepare for therapy on your own. For that aim, you lay down on the treatment couch and cover your lower body with a towel. Afterwards I will come back to the treatment room. You will remain completely covered during the entire irrigation, once the speculum is inserted in the anus.
